This is the place where you can get up to date information on the production of the documentary profiling the Centerville Jazz Band. We are also accepting ideas, information, and volunteers who would like to assist in the project.
This documentary will give an inside look at the band experience, basically from Band Camp to Nationals. We will be exploring the rewards of disciplined practice, the often overlooked technical artistry of the group endeavor, as well as the excitement of competition.
I am a long time admirer of the outstanding work that the Centerville Jazz program has done in the lives of young people, having noticed first hand during my own high school experience the positive life changing effects of the Centerville marching band program. For those who have participated in the Marching Band experience, the rewards and excitement are obvious. No where else do you see hundreds of teenagers working together in such unison and commitment for one common goal. It is truly staggering to see the commitment and discipline of these young people.
In order for this documentary to be an overwhelming success, we are calling on the talents of all of those parents and students who want to lend a volunteer hand in this project. If you own a video camera, whether it be a DV cam, Hi-8, Hi Def, or an old VHS Camera, we are accepting volunteer video from all sources. To truly give a behind the scenes view of this great band, we will want any interested parents to shoot video at football games, practices, pre-competitions procedures, calendar sales, calendar delivery, and any aspect of the band program that you might be involved in. We are also interested in getting your children's perspectives of events - Video Diaries. If you want to conduct simple interviews after a compeition, after a football game, or any event, this will help to develop the story of being involved in this great program. The volunteer parent and student video you shoot will greatly assist the project. We will be professionally shooting the band and interviews at various stages throughout the process, but your video will greatly help to give the big picture. If we get enough interest, I would be glad to hold a brief seminar on how to shoot, how to interview, etc., for those interested. Please email me if you are interested in participating.
